Madonna’s son, David Banda, is embracing a whirlwind year of new experiences as he steps into adulthood.
After graduating from high school, the 18-year-old has taken a significant leap by moving out of his mother’s opulent Upper East Side residence to a more modest setup in the Bronx with his girlfriend, Maria Atuesta.
In an Instagram Live, Banda told fans that he’s been “scavenging for food” after moving out on his own.
“It’s lovely to experience it being 9 o’clock at night, me being hungry and realizing that I don’t have enough money to get food, but we don’t have enough food in the house and scavenging,” he quipped to a fan asking how he is adjusting to being on his own. “It’s fun to be young.”
To earn extra cash, the teenager has been teaching guitar lessons. “I love it. I’m not on my own, I’ve got my girlfriend [21-year-old model, Maria Atuesta],” he said. “But I love it.”
For Mother’s Day, Madonna shared a reflective Instagram post that included a carousel of images. Among the images, she included a snap shot of daughter Mercy James, and David, in their caps and gowns for graduation.
“They grow up too fast and spin out in different directions And yes I have a hard time letting go,” the 65-year-old Queen of Pop wrote in the post’s caption. “David and Mercy graduated high school … Finally the realization that they were raising me and not the other way around.”
Always supporting her children in all that they do, Madonna threw her son a lavish 18th birthday party last September. The Holiday singer shared highlights of the fun in an Instagram reel, captioning the post,
“It is impossible to believe that almost 18 years have gone by since We met you in Mchinji at Home of Hope Oprhanage! You name means ‘Speak the truth!’ I couldn’t think of a better name for an artist!”
Madonna is mother to six children. In addition to David, and Mercy, she is also mother to twins Stella, and Estere, and to two older children, Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 23.
