Usher has added another accolade to his illustrious career, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards.
The singer was surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife Jennifer Goicoechea Raymond, mother Jonnetta Patton, sons Naviyd Raymond and Usher “Cinco” Raymond V, and brother J. Lack, as he accepted the prestigious honor.
In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Usher expressed gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his career, with a special shoutout to his wife, Jenn, as well as his mom and kids.
“I thank y’all for being patient with me,” he said to his sons Cinco and Naviyd, who were sitting in the audience.
He continued, “It’s all about y’all. It is 100 percent all about my children and making certain that you understand that your dreams can come true if you are truly committed to it.If you’re dedicated to something and you find passion and you stay committed to it, this could potentially be you. This could be your moment — not on this stage, because I’m the only one that’s gonna have this one. But you could have a moment like this too.”
To his wife he expressed, “My lovely wife, thank you so much for being my best friend, thank you so much for supportimg me and encouraging me.
Usher’s year has indeed been remarkable, with a successful residency in Las Vegas, a memorable performance at the Super Bowl, and the launch of his “Past Present Future” tour. His achievements and contributions to music and entertainment continue to resonate deeply with fans and industry peers alike.
Aside from his professional triumphs, Usher is also a proud father of four. He shares sons Usher “Cinco” V and Naviyd Ely with ex-wife Tameka Foster, and has a daughter, Sovereign Bo, and a son, Sire Castrello, with wife Jenn Goicoechea.
BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges “special achievements and distinguished public service” among industry trailblazers “who have powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry.” Usher, known for his enduring impact on the music scene, certainly fits the bill.
