When you are a parent of multiple children, it is sometimes hard to navigate spending quality time with each one of them. If you are Nick Cannon, father of 12, then spending quality time may indeed present somewhat of a challenge. In a recent interview with People Magazine, the multi-hyphenate entertainer talks about ensuring that all of his children get the “opportunity to connect” and spend quality time with him on Father’s Day.
“It’s definitely one of those days where I got be on my Ps and Qs the entire day,” Cannon admits in his interview.
“It’s supposed to be a day where I get to rest, but I want to give all my kids the opportunity to connect and give me gifts, and all that type of stuff. It’s a fun day and I appreciate all the love that I get on that day.”
This year, the busy father will have to celebrate the special holiday on the set of The Masked Singer. However, that will not deter the fun, as the kids will join him while filming the show so that they can give him their gifts of arts and crafts. And as expected, the transitional children’s gift for the young ones is the “macaroni necklace.” According to Cannon, it will definitely be in the mix. Cannon’s children range in age from 17 months to 13-years-old.
“I’m getting the macaroni necklaces, the construction paper card, all of that stuff, which I love,” he said. “My offices are filled with great gifts that my kids have created and conjured up.”
One might think that Cannon may be overwhelmed with 12 children; yet, the 43-year-old assures the outlet that that isn’t the case.
“I’m never overwhelmed, because overwhelmed means like almost when you can’t handle it,” he explains. “But I’m definitely overly energetic when it comes to all the energy that comes from my kids. I feel that daily. They drive me to thrive.”
“It’s definitely from the time I open my eyes to the time I get to close them at night, it’s all about the kids the whole time. When you have 12, it’s definitely they’re the pulse of all that I do.”
Cannon admits that finding common ground with all of his children isn’t hard at all because he is a big kid himself. Sometimes he finds himself as the one that they have to keep in line.
“Luckily, I’ve been blessed that me and my kids are super cool and I’m such a big kid at heart that I’m probably more mischievous than them, so they’re always keeping me in line.”
Cannon’s 12 children include: twins Morocco and Monroe, whom he shares with ex Mariah Carey; sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon and daughter Powerful Queen whom he shares with Brittany Bell; twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi; and daughter Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole. Cannon also father two children with Alyssa Scott — son Zen, who died at five-months-old in December 2021 from brain cancer, and daughter Halo Marie Cannon, who was born in December of 2022.
