Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley have decided to part ways after five years of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the news of their amicable split.
“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the former couple revealed in a joint statement posted on their Instagram Stories. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”
Despite their decision to separate, Chance and Kirsten emphasized their gratitude for their two daughters, Kensli,8, and Marli,4, whom they will continue to co-parent. “God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” they expressed in their statement.
As they navigate this transition, Chance and Kirsten have requested privacy and respect from their fans and the public. “We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you,” they concluded, signing off as “Chance & Kirsten.”
The announcement of their divorce comes almost a year after rumors began swirling about troubles in their marriage. Last April, footage surfaced of Chance dancing with another woman during his 30th birthday celebration in Jamaica.
Following the viral clip, Kirsten shared a poignant Maya Angelou quote on Instagram, hinting at the challenges they were facing as a couple.
Chance and Kirsten welcomed their first child together, daughter Kensli, in 2015. After six years of dating, the couple got engaged and exchanged vows in a star-studded ceremony in Newport Beach, California.
Five months after their wedding, their family expanded in 2019 with the arrival of their second daughter, Marli Grace.
During a recent appearance on TODAY on February 26, Chance expressed his joy in being a father to girls.
‘When they get excited to see me, that feels really good. I love doing little learning exercises with them. We do a lot of science experiments, going to museums, it’s fun,” he said.
