Tristan Thompson is making headlines for reportedly failing to meet his child support obligations to Maralee Nichols, the mother of his 2-year-old son, Theo.
According to sources, the NBA star allegedly owes Nichols a staggering $57,916 in back child support, stemming from missed payments spanning from September 15, 2023, to January 31, 2024.
Nichols’ connection with Thompson came to light in 2021, while he was in an exclusive relationship with reality TV personality Khloe Kardashian. During this time, Nichols sued Thompson and he was ordered to pay her $9,500 per month in child support.
Initially, he refused to fulfill his financial obligations until the results of a paternity test for Theo were confirmed. Upon confirmation of paternity in 2023, Tristan released a statement apologizing to ex-partner Khloe.
He wrote, “Today, paternity test results reveal that I fathered a child with Maralee Nichols. I take full responsibility for my actions. Now that paternity has been established I look forward to amicably raising our son.”
He also addressed Kardashian, saying, “Khloe, you don’t deserve this. You don’t deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you. You don’t deserve the way I’ve treated you over the years.”
Thompson’s legal woes don’t end there. In October, reports surfaced that he also owed $224,000 to another ex, Jordan Craig, for falling behind on child support payments for their 7-year-old son.
Despite these legal setbacks, Thompson recently made a comeback to the court after serving a suspension for violating the league’s anti-drug policy. Throughout this time, his teammates teammates rallied behind him.
Reflecting on his suspension, Thompson remarked, “When they told me, I was kind of surprised. But it is what it is. Not going to look in the past. The guys have been great. They held it down and supported me.”
