Chrissy Teigen has found herself in the middle of a Girl Scout Cookie post debate involving her daughter Luna Stephens.
It all began when Teigen shared a heartwarming video featuring Luna, announcing the start of her Girl Scout troop’s annual cookie sale.
In the video, Luna, with the enthusiasm of a proud Girl Scout Brownie, invited followers to support her troop by purchasing cookies.
The video began with the seven-year-old saying, “Hey guys, it’s Luna! I’m a Girl Scout Brownie and guess what? It’s cookie season. So, if you want to buy cookies, you’re in the right place!”
In the caption of the video, Teigen encouraged support for the Girl Scouts of America.
She wrote, “My own daughter is now in the cookie selling game! if you’d like to support the awesomeness that is @girlscouts, please screenshot this and you can click for her link in your photos! please note this is for shipping only, as we cannot trek across America at this time lol.”
While the intention behind the post seemed pure, some followers voiced dissatisfaction, suggesting that Teigen should use her platform to support less privileged troops or individual Girl Scouts.
“Okay, sort of hate this though. Maybe link the whole wide internet to a low-income girl scout who isn’t already totally hooked up to sell all the cookies,” one person commented.
Another responded, “Should be linked to less fortunate troops. I’m sorry this doesn’t seem right to me. Support your local troops first people.”
One commenter said, “Just a thought, don’t forget the scouts standing at grocery stores selling their hearts out, that don’t have this advantage.”
Another social media user expressed her true “disappointment” that Teigen would even have the nerve to ask people to buy cookies.
“Why on earth are you asking your followers for this? You’re a millionaire and some people can’t even afford to live right now. I’m really disappointed to see this.”
On the opposing side of “Cookie-gate,” one social media user came to the defense of both Teigen and Luna.
“Hey y’all. Despite her parents being celebrities, Luna is still a girlscout that deserves to be supported and her parents are selling in their workplace as you would,” @nanette_whitley_lide wrote.
She continued, “If you choose not to buy from Luna then I hope this message encourages you to buy from someone else but DON’T bash her mom for sharing her excitement to be a girl scout.”
Per the official Girl Scouts website, the Girl Scout Cookie program provides ways for the girls to “learn, grow, and thrive through the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world.
