“The Color Purple,” set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, has stirred excitement among fans eagerly anticipating the musical spin on Alice Walker’s iconic novel. While many are excited about the movie, one person, in particular, is really looking forward to it – Danielle Brooks’ 3-year-old daughter, Freeya.
Danielle Brooks recently shared a video of her 3-year-old daughter, Freeya, watching The Color Purple trailer, and it’s super adorable!
“A few months ago I took my daughter to her first movie theatre experience, The Little Mermaid. The trailer for @thecolorpurple began to play, and I knew I just had to capture this special moment of my daughter seeing her mother on the big screen for the first time,” the 34-year-old actress captioned the video post on Instagram.
The caption continued, “You all know I became a puddle of tears. Knowing that I get to leave my daughter something to always be proud of and remember me by is so special to me. So grateful for moments like these. I hope you will come see this film on Christmas Day and create unforgettable moments with your loved ones as well. ”
In the video, you hear the adorable toddler excitedly say, when she saw her mother on screen,”That’s you! That’s you! That’s you!” Freeya excitedly laughs out of the camera frame, saying “Mommy!”
In the upcoming film, Brooks takes on the role of Sofia, a character previously portrayed by Oprah Winfrey in the 1985 adaptation, earning her an Oscar nomination.
The star-studded cast also includes Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, H.E.R, Coleman Domingo, and more. A brief synopsis from Deadline reveals that the film draws inspiration from the Tony-winning musical by Norman, Brenda Lee, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, which, in turn, is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Following in the footsteps of the acclaimed 1985 film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg, the narrative revolves around Celie, a Black Southern woman navigating her identity amidst decades of abuse.
