Two years ago, Cassidy Bridges became an overnight sensation with a viral video that all started with a simple compliment about her gorgeous hair. This adorable young girl’s response was pure magic:”Thank you! It’s an Afro!”
Who would have guessed that those very words would launch the now seven-year-old into becoming an author, model, and entrepreneur. With her truly amazing persona, Bridges even caught the attention of and inspired EGOT-winner, Jennifer Hudson.
In the almost four minute video segment clip, young Bridges exudes tremendous confidence and poise as she talks about her hair journey and how she likes to encourage others to feel good about themselves and learn about her Afro.
Curious to know exactly where Bridges gets so much confidence from, Hudson asks her mother, “Where does this confidence come from, mom?”
“We are very very big on foundation. We do affirmations every single day. We want to make sure, especially because Cassidy has always wanted to model, to act, to sing, from very young,” Bridges’ mother responded.
She continued, “And I feel when you get out in the world, it will tell you who you are. And for us, it is very important to give that foundation before she goes out there so she knows who she is, no matter what.”
From her strong foundation at home, and as a result of not seeing boys and girls who look like her in the pages of literature, Bridges decided to pen and share her own story. The result, “Thank You, It’s An Afro”.

Bridges took the opportunity to share and read some of her “affromations,” with Hudson and her audience. At the end, the actress told the young author that she had “just inspired the whole room” and that she is a “powerful young lady.”
