In her ESPN new documentary, Candace Parker: Unapologetic, the WNBA superstar opened up about raising her daughter on the road.
In a People Magazine exclusive clip from the new documentary, the 37-year-old basketball player talks about raising her 14-year-old daughter Lailaa, on the road with her as she pursued her global basketball career.
“Lailaa went everywhere with me, and I don’t think my team wherever I played would want me without her. We used to always say we’re a team, right?” Parker said in the documentary.
The clip then cuts to the duo on an airplane “Where are we going?” Parker asked a younger Lailaa. “Tianjin,” Lailaa responded.
Parker continued in a confessional moment saying that, “What I remember, I just wanted to be with my parents and I wanted to be with my family and I wanted to have fun. And that’s what I tried to do for Lailaa,”
She concluded, “Her fun just happened to take place in an airport in Istanbul, Turkey or her crawling at an away game at Euro League. Or her trying potatoes for the first time in Spain. I think it’s been amazing because her playground has literally been the world.”
Parker shares her daughter with ex-husband Shelden Williams. In addition to Lailaa, the Las Vegas Aces player also shares her one-year-old son, Airr Larry Petrakov Parker with current wife Anna Petrakova.
For the talented athlete, she makes it known that being a mom is “THE most important aspect of who I identify as.”
In a sweet pre-Mother’s Day post during the spring of this year, Parker continued talking about her important job.
“Being a mom is THE most important aspect of who I identify as. No matter how many hats I may wear, being a mom always IS NUMBER 1!” she began a caption for a carousel of beautiful images of she and her family.
Parker continued, “Lailaa, we grew up together and I’m in awe of the young woman you’re becoming! #MyReason Airr (yes that’s your legal name 😂), ever since you came into our life you have been a light in our world! Seeing you grow up and being able to witness Anya being the best mama in the world to you brings my heart so much joy. #MyPresent Lai and Goose, thank you for choosing me to be your Mommy.”
The 37-year-old mother-of-two concluded, “While the calendar doesn’t say it’s Mother’s Day until May, happy Mother’s Day to Anya, my Mom, and all of the moms out there!”
