Monica is ringing in her 43rd birthday in style. The singer took to her Instagram earlier today to share a photoshoot featuring her and her only daughter, Laiyah Brown.
In the photos, Monica exudes elegance in a stunning pearl dress, while her daughter radiates charm in a white dress that perfectly complements her mother’s style.
The proud mom captioned, “Diamonds & Pearls aren’t as Precious as My Girl…43.”
The mother-daughter images touched the hearts of fans who left a trail of adoring comments:
“This is so sweet coming from your daughter who knows her mommy has everything she could want… Happy 43rd birthday!”
“Happy birthday Mo. You look amazing as always.”
“Wow!!!!! Look at laiyah, she’s all grown up. A lil lady.”
Monica, who began her remarkable career in the early ’90s with her debut album “Miss Thang” in 1994, considers her three children to be her greatest inspiration and motivation.
“From the Stage to the Plane to the Wood.. Nothing that I do means more to me than being their MOM,” she shared in a post this week.
However, despite the acclaim and adoration she has received over the last three decades, the musician considers herself an “underdog.”
“I was able to really enjoy my career because I didn’t have any expectations,” she said in a recent interview. “I was not looking at stats, I was not worried about awards. I’m actually a person that, for all the records I’ve broken, I really have never won any awards. I’m really the most forgotten if you think about it.”
She continued, “I’m pretty much the underdog, but I sit very comfortably in it because I can still go where I want, do what I want, live how I want. But when I say that I am often forgotten, I was hosting the Soul Train Awards, was nominated for five, three of my songs in one category and still lost.”
