In a recent interview with Andy Cohen, Sherry Shepherd admitted that she, for a brief moment in time, added “house detective” to her resume. The 56-year-old told to the Bravo TV personality that she used cameras to spy on her 18-year-old son and his girlfriend to ensure that they were “keeping things PG.”
“The girl came over to the house and I remember calling Garcelle Beauvais and I was like, ‘Oh my God, the girl’s coming over to the house, and they want to kiss,'” Shepherd told radio host Andy Cohen during an interview on his SiriusXM show. Shepherd continued, “And she was like, ‘Girl, I know because, you know, I’m going through it with my son.'”
To keep tabs on the teen and make sure that things were on the up and up, Shepherd bought several hidden cameras on DoorDash so that she could place them around her house.
“He didn’t know,” the multi-hyphenated entertainer confessed. When Shepherd saw the footage of the couple kissing in the family room, she said that she exclaimed to Beauvais, “‘Oh God, they’re kissing. I can’t.’ And I couldn’t watch it.”
Eventually the pair made it up the stairs to her son’s bedroom, but Shepherd came to the conclusion that she didn’t need the cameras at all because her son is a “gentleman.”
“You know what I realized? My son is such a gentleman,” she told Cohen. “They play video games, and he would kiss her on the cheek. Once she left, I turned it away and took the cord out.”
Shepherd is mother to two boys. Her 18-year-old son Jeffery made his debut into the world in April of 2005. At the time, Shepherd was married to Jeffery Tarpley, Sr. The couple would soon find out that their son had developmental delays. In 2018, Shepherd spoke to People Magazine about her son, telling the popular entertainment outlet that he is “perfectly imperfect”.
“He’s got developmental delays,” Shepherd said in her interview at the time. “I know that God created this little boy, who’s so yummy and special, and I have to accept him just in his little imperfect perfections. He’s perfectly imperfect in every way.”
Six years after she and Tarpley’s 2009 divorce, the duo engaged in a long custody battle over Jeffery JR. However, the judge ruled in Shepherd’s favor.
The former View host’s second son, Lamar, was welcomed to the world via surrogacy with her second husband, Lamar Sally in 2014. Sally and Shepherd divorced a few months prior to Lamar’s arrival and the child has been exclusively raised by his father since then.
