Tia Mowry is opening up about her difficult breastfeeding journey in order to help others as we continue through National Breastfeeding Month.
The 45-year-old mother of two posted a beautiful and candid long message on Instagram about her journey.
In detail, the Sister Sister alum described her struggles with her first child, Cree, saying that she had to “switch to formula” after three months. With her second pregnancy, she admitted that she learned a lot more about the process and was able to breastfeed for 13 months. Yet, once again, the journey was difficult. Between work and travel, her body became “extremely fatigued and overworked and at one point, I got mastitis which is a painful infection of the breast tissue ans had to be hospitalized.”
But, the actress and advocate credited having “a huge community of women who were all so supportive and encouraged me to continue on,” and she did.
Mowry went on to do what she does best, encouraging other mothers to fill like they can conquer the world. She went on to conclude her post by saying, “If this isn’t enough to show you how badass moms can be- then I don’t know what else to tell you! And if you are struggling with breastfeeding, I want you to know that it is more than okay to feed your children formula.”
She ended by saying, “As long as your children are fed, loved, happy, and supported that’s all that matters. Sending my love and support all you superhero moms out there. You got this!”
Mowry shares 12-year-old son Cree, five-year-old daughter Cairo, with ex-husband Cory Hardrict.
Per the Healthy Horizons Breastfeeding Centers, National Breastfeeding Month (NBM) was launched in 1990. The United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) officially declared August as National Breastfeeding Month on August 6, 2011. Since then, it has been celebrated annually.
