When we think of fashion design, we don’t necessarily think of shoes. Well, one 14-year-old designer from Brooklyn, NY is aiming to change that as she is making waves with her new shoe line, LANE 1.
Amira-Dior Traynham-Artis is stirring up a lot of buzz with her line. Per the line’s official website, the shoes were “… created as a walk of expression. When you wear them, you’re speaking without saying something. They are unique. They are high quality. They are YOU in your own lane. LANE 1- Speak without saying something!”
Although the shoes are designed to “speak without saying something,” they are actually saying everything!
Traynham-Artis was invited by Nathalie Dubois, CEO of global brand execution platform DPA group to exhibit one of her designs during the 2023 Oscars weekend. The young designer was on hand to present her sneakers to celebrities at “the DPA luxe gift suite 2023”.
“I was definitely excited,” Traynham-Artis said about the opportunity in an interview with the ABC‘s Good Morning America. “I didn’t know how to feel at first.”
Dubois said that she learned about Traynham-Artis through a PR group and wanted to help her.
“Today’s world for the kids, I think is very dark,” Dubois stated, continuing to say that Traynham-Artis is “brilliant.”
So how did she get started designing? Well, according to Traynham-Artis’ mother, she has always been a designer, but her mom gave her the extra push with a new platfrom, (LANE 1), to truly help her shine.
“I know that my daughter is very creative. She has been creative since a very young age,” Kenesha Traynham-Cooper told GMA. “So I figured, you know what, let me give her a platform where we can make this tangible.”
And with all of her success, the young entrepreneur is looking to give a hand to those who are following in her footsteps with a word of advice.
“There’s always going to be somebody who is going to try to tear you down, your job is to not allow them to do that,” Traynham-Artis said.
Traynham-Artis dreams to one day collab with either Nike or Adidas.
