Major congratulations are in order for 10-year-old Keivonn Montreal Woodard. The young actor just made history with his Emmy nomination for guest actor in the drama series, The Last of Us.
If you are a fan of the show, then you know that Woodard, who is deaf, portrayed a young deaf apocalypse survivor named Sam. From the beginning the talented young star won nothing but praise from not only fans, but from showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann as well.
“He was astonishing,” Mazin said on HBO’s The Last of Us podcast. “I have never been in a circumstance where a kid, who has never really acted on film before, shows up and is so naturally good at it. He was a joy to have around, and a total dream. He’s incredible and I cannot wait to see more from him. I hope that when people watch this episode, here in Hollywood and in our business, that they don’t just stop at the end of it and go, ‘Boy, that kid was really good playing the character of Sam’. I hope that they go, ‘That kid ought to be in a lot of things.’”
The star of the series, Bella Ramsey, who also received an Emmy nomination for her work on the show, took to Instagram to share her excitement over Woodard’s nomination.
“I can’t tell you how IMMENSELY proud I am of @keivonnwoodard. His first job, and his first Emmy nomination. He turned up to set every day with energy, determination, humour and honesty. He is gonna take over the world. Super Sam forever,” the 19-year-old British actress shared on her Instagram story.
In addition to The Last of Us, Woodard is also known for The Last of Us (2023), and Fractal and Seeds of Hope: The Andrew Jackson Foster Story (2018). Woodard has an upcoming project, Fractal, a short, that is in post-production.
