Nick Cannon is back in the news again, and this time not for having baby number 13. The Wild ‘N Out host has his sights set to pursue an advanced academic degree in child psychology.
If you didn’t know, Cannon was already pursuing a master’s degree in psychology, but told Dr. Laura Berman on her podcast, The Language of Love with Dr. Laura Berman, earlier this month that he is shifting from obtaining a master’s in psychology alone to obtaining one in child psychology. To which the famous relationship doctor replied, “Yeah, that’ll come in handy.”
Cannon replied that, “I’m in that conversation every day.”
The 42-year-old father continued saying that, “Oh, the presence of a father and how much will they need you and the Freudian aspect of reverting back to your childhood trauma, or the lack thereof. Nature vs nurture. These are conversations I have several times every single day.”
Dr. Berman asked Cannon with whom is he engaging in these conversations, “naysayers or the mothers?”
Cannon replied, “Nah, not naysayers. But I’m like, I’m living, whether in therapy on my own or even just wanting to make sure that every single child has what they need, developmentally. And emotionally. I’m studying the brain and at what point does sensory matter.”
A switch in focus will unquestionably help Cannon not only professionally, but as a parent. As we know, he is father to 12 children, mothered by six women, which include:
- Twins Moroccan and Monroe with Mariah Carey
- Golden, Powerful Queen, and Rise with Brittany Bell
- Twins Zion and Zillion, and Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa
- Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi
- Onyx Ice with LaNisha Cole
- Halo Marie with Alyssa Scott. Cannon and Scott also had a son, Zen, who died of a brain tumor five months after he was born.
In addition to obtaining his master’s degree in child psychology, Cannon is also pursuing a Ph.D in divinity.
