Monica shared a heartwarming moment with her oldest son, Rodney, as she sent him off to prom on Saturday. The singer posted a series of photos on Instagram, beaming with pride as she posed with her son and his date before they headed off to prom. “My heart skipped a beat as my eyes filled tears… I Love U Son,” she wrote in the caption.
In a video posted on Instagram the following day, Monica stressed the need for mothers to teach their sons from a woman’s perspective. “Boys and girls need their fathers. There’s something that they add to their lives that we just can not add,” she said. “But this moment is for moms with sons. Make sure you teach them as much as you can from a woman’s perspective and from a human’s perspective, too.”
As a mother of three, Monica knows the importance of teaching her children the right values and instilling in them a sense of responsibility. She believes that mothers have a crucial role to play in shaping their sons’ behavior and attitudes towards women.
“I feel like a lot of times as moms because we love our sons, we excuse a lot and we din’t speak on what it is we experience when we then become wives, girlfriends or friends of.”
“It’s important for a man to know the desires of a woman and how to respect a woman and how to speak to a woman.”
According to Monica, not keeping it real with sons is not good, especially when there is a disparity amongst our boys and boys of other races. “They are not valuing our children. The disparity amongst our boys and boys of other races is insane. So not keeping it real with them is not good,” she said.
“What i find happens the most when you pacify your sons and you do not teach them, they’re unable to be accountable. Accountability is first and foremost over here.”
Rodney,17, is Monica first son with rapper Rodney “Rocko” Hill. The former couple also have a son named Romelo who is 15. Monica’s third child is daughter Laiyah, 9, from her marriage to Shannon Brown.
