Divorce is never easy, especially when there are children involved. Actress and mother of two, Tia Mowry, is learning how to be a newly single mom. Mowry said in an exclusive interview with People Magazine that she feels like she’s “always in survival mode,” as she is learning how to navigate her new normal.
“[I am] really learning how to really be present [as a parent],” the 44-year-old told the popular news outlet. “I feel like, especially as a mom wearing so many different hats, I’m always in survival mode.”
She continued, “I’m always making sure everybody is okay, everybody’s alive, everybody’s healthy, everybody’s fed and making sure everybody’s fine, they have no holes in their socks, et cetera. But for me, it’s about learning how to be aware and present with myself, and tapping in and making sure I too am taken care of. [Because] how can you take care of other people if your cup isn’t filled?”
Mowry shares 11-year-old son Cree and four-year-old daughter, Cairo with 42-year-old ex-husband Cory Hardrict. The pair married in 2008 and publicly announced their separation in October of this year after 14 years of marriage.
The Sister Sister star broke the news in a touchingly transparent post to her fans saying, “I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways. These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children. I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives.”
In the midst of this new life transition, Mowry said that her children “are doing well. They’re continuing to thrive so beautifully.”
And that, we have no doubt that they will continue to do so. And, their mother will as well.
