Halloween is upon us once again and it is time to get scared, or not, as a family. Here are five Halloween movies to binge this weekend as a family.
1. Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 (Rated PG)
Make it a double feature with Hocus Pocus and the recent Disney+ release, Hocus Pocus 2. In the original, Max, a California teen, relocates with his family to Salem, MA. In his new city, known for its “witchy heritage,” Max comes across not only the local lore about the three Sanderson Sisters, but he gets to meet them as well. Max and his friends have to put a stop to the sisters’ antics as they are trying to suck the life force out of the town’s children.
In Hocus Pocus 2, twenty-nine years have passed and now three best friends are tasked with managing the return of the Sanderson Sisters to the town of Salem, MA. However, in this squeal, viewers are in for a treat, because they get the backstory of Winnifred, Sarah, and Mary.
Watch both on Disney+.
2. The Curse of Bridge Hollow (Rated TV14)
According to a parent review on CommonSenseMedia.org, The Curse of Bridge Hollow is, “…overall [a] movie [that] is filled with humor, love, and heart!”
Parents need to know that THE CURSE OF BRIDGE HOLLOW is a family, Halloween comedy with lots of fun and scares. The movie is family friendly but the scares can sometimes be scary — for even older kids (age 8-9). So expect Halloween decorations being possessed and coming to life like skeletons, demons, witches, etc. The clowns that come to life are quite scary so if your scared of this stuff you might get goose bumps. There’s also a scene where a 9 foot tarantula attempts to attack Sydney and her dad. However no one dies, or gets seriously injured – – the only scene I wouldn’t recommend for kids under 11 or 12 is the tarantula scene and maybe (for the sensitive ones) the clown scene. But overall, this movie is filled with humor, love, horror and heart!
Watch on Netflix.
3. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Not Rated)

Nothing compares to a Halloween classic and Charlie Brown. In It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown Linus and Sally wait all night in the pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to appear while Snoopy is in high-flying form as an ace pilot. Where is the rest of the Charlie Brown gang? Well, comparing their Halloween loot, of course.
Watch on Apple TV+.
4. Coco (Rated PG)
In Coco, according to Good Housekeeping, is definitely a movie for the entire family to watch. Full of music, and wonder, Miguel goes and a journey through the the Land of the Dead where he learns about his family. even though Dia de Los Muertos, (Day of the Dead), is not actually Halloween related, this is definitely a great pic as Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1.
Watch on Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.
5. Nightbooks (Rated PG)
According to Netflix, in Nightbooks, scary story fan Alex must tell a spine-tingling tale every night — or stay trapped with his new friend in a wicked witch’s magical apartment forever. This scary story also stars BCKOnline favorite, Lydia Jewett.
