Tina Knowles is a doting grandma. The fashion designer recently shared a cute story about her granddaughters, Rumi and Blue.
“They are little fashionistas, and they have definite determination about what they like and what they don’t like,” Tina said during an interview with Oprah Daily. “When Beyoncé’s doing the first samples [of Ivy Park], they get them, and some things they love, and some things you can tell are not their favorite,” the celebrity grandma said of Blue and Rumi’s involvement in their mom’s popular clothing line.
“Kids like things that are comfortable,” Tina shared with the press. “They don’t want anything that’s scratchy or too tight or high around the neck. So they absolutely give input on the brand. And they wear it—I mean, they are always in Ivy Park.”
Blue and Rumi voice their opinions about fashion for their mom’s brand and for everyday life. “It’s funny because Rumi loves fashion,” Tina Knowles shared with Oprah Daily. “She picks out her own clothes,” the celebrity grandma continued.
“We recently went to Disneyland, and she put on her Mickey Mouse shorts,” Knowles told media. She went on to share the cute story of Rumi’s wardrobe choice for Disneyland. “Then she wanted to put on a sparkly printed top, which had the same colors. It actually looked really cute,” Tina said.
“But her sister came in and Blue was like, ‘My mom would be mad because she’s doing too much.’ And Rumi said, ‘This is my style.’ She’s 5. I was impressed,” Tina said of Rumi’s determination to stand up for herself. “She also said, ‘Mickey Mouse is going to be so excited. He’s going to come up and take a picture with me,'” the celebrity grandma added.
“She’s so funny,” Tina said of Rumi. “And do you know, Mickey came up and took a picture with her? She reminds me so much of Solange when she was little. She wore outrageous stuff, but she has an amazing sense of style. So you let them do their own thing. You can’t say, ‘No, this doesn’t go with this or that.'”
Rumi and Blue are two of three kids Beyoncé and Jay-Z parent. The celebrity couple also has a son named Sir who is his sister Rumi’s twin.
