Nick Cannon is defending his decision to return to work immediately after the untimely passing of his son, Zen Cannon. The celebrity father addressed concerns from fans and loved ones who believed he should have taken time off after Zen’s death.
“A lot of people keep asking me like, ‘Man why are you even at work?’ Especially my family members [who say], ‘Boy you need to go sit down somewhere. You got too many jobs already. Allow yourself to just be yourself.'”
Zen Cannon passed away on December 5, 2021, after battling brain cancer. The little one was only 5-months-old at the time of his passing. Nick Cannon returned to his show after spending what turned out to be his last weekend with his son. Some believed the celebrity father should have taken time to gather his thoughts at home. Nick, however, explained his reason for coming back to work so soon.

“I was always taught you don’t just go through it. You grow through it. You keep pushing,” Nick shared with his audience earlier this week. “I have so much faith in The Lord. I have so much faith in God,” the celebrity father shared. “People were often telling me I should pray for miracles. And I did pray for the miracle. I prayed for the miracle of God’s strength. And that’s why I’m here with you guys today.”
Nick went on to explain how work helps him heal. “To me, this isn’t work. This is love,” Cannon told his viewers. “Yesterday, it was a little easier than today because yesterday I was so laser-focused and even numb,” Nick admitted in reference to when he shared the news of Zen’s passing during Tuesday’s episode of his talk show. “Today, I’m a little torn. I’m a little confused. Because it’s a hurting thing. I’m grieving.”
Zen Cannon was Nick Cannon’s youngest son. The celebrity father has seven kids in all.
