The Princess and The Frog fans rejoice! The story of Princess Tiana continues. The iconic princess will make her move from the bayou to the royal court in a new series slated to debut on Disney+ in 2023. As a part of their Disney+ day a few days ago, Disney revealed first look art work for the upcoming new series, Tiana.
So, just what can fans expect from the new series. Well, according to the Disney fandom page, in the series, Tiana sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.
In the first concept art that was revealed, Tiana is seen in a 1920s style, which of course, is the right color…green. She is seen running across the bow of a ship, with the expected magic trailing behind her at her feet.
Walt Disney Animation Studios tapped Stella Meghie to write and direct the upcoming series.
Meghie took to Instagram to excitedly announce the news.
“Thank you tremendously to Walt Disney Animation Studios for entrusting me to continue Tiana’s story. Allowing me to be a steward for the legacy of Princess and the Frog. Writing and directing at @disneyanimation was a dream before I knew it was possible — 8 years old watching The Little Mermaid obsessively. I tried not to sound like an excited, screaming pre-teen when Jenn Lee called to talk about a series starring my favorite Disney princess, Tiana. I’m consumed by her character. And you know I love my Jazz scores.”
She continued, “It’s been excruciating not to share what I’ve been working on for the past year. If it’s one thing about Disney — they’ll make you sign an NDA! Bursting to now be able to share new concept art as we continue our creative journey. New adventures, new worlds, new music. TIANA is coming in 2023 to @disneyplus.”
This is Meghie’s first opportunity to direct an animation series. If her name looks familiar, it should as she also directed The Photograph with Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield, a few episodes of the popular Freeform show, Grown-ish, and Insecure.
Anika Noni Rose will reprise her voice role for the series.
