Madonna’s daughter, Mercy James, celebrated her fifteenth birthday with a trip to the skate park. Madonna took her teen daughter, along with Mercy’s siblings, on the outing this past weekend.

“This is how we celebrate the birthday of Chifundo James- Warrior in training,” Madonna told her social media fans. The legendary Pop singer also shared pictures from the outing, which included Rosie O’Donnell having fun with the kids.
Mercy James was adopted from Malawi in 2007. Madonna recalled the emotional fight she underwent while trying to work with the country’s government to adopt Mercy and bring her back to the United States during a 2017 interview.
“I met Mercy soon after I met my son David, but they were living in different orphanages,” Madonna shared with the press during the opening of Malawi’s first pediatric surgery and intensive care center called The Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care. “David was in Mchinji in Home of Hope, and Mercy was here in Blantyre at Kondanani,” Madonna said of the adoption process. The singer successfully adopted her son, David Banda, one year prior to pursuing the adoption of Mercy.

“Mercy was suffering from malaria and David from pneumonia,” Madonna shared with the crowd at her pediatric center’s opening. “And when I held each of them in my arms, I whispered in their ears, that I would look after them. And I promised them that they would grow up into strong and healthy adults.”
Madonna has kept her promise to both Mercy and her older brother, David. In fact, the celebrity mom has expanded her family by two more children, Estere and Stelle, who were adopted from Malawi in 2017.

“I believe that if you want something badly enough in life, the universe will conspire to help you get it,” Madonna said when speaking of her tenacity during the adoption process for Mercy. “It may not be exactly when you want it, it may not come exactly when you think it’s gonna come. It may not come in the package that you want it. But if you persevere, you will win. I fought for Mercy, and I won,” the singer declared.
