Jill Scott has never considered herself to be a single mom. The recording artist recently stopped by The Tamron Hall Show where she explained how her “village” has helped raise her son, Jett Hamilton Roberts, through the years.
“I never really considered myself a single parent because I was blessed to have a village of family and friends who love us and assist in every way to help him become a really kind person and a genuine person,” Jill Scott revealed. “Uncle Scott and Uncle Lance are my brothers from another mother,” the celebrity mom said.
Jill Scott welcomed Jett in April 2009. The singer was engaged to her son’s father, Jon Roberts, at the time but ultimately ended the relationship. Still, even with Jett’s dad living outside of the home, Jill has maintained a “village” of family members and friends who impart wisdom and knowledge to Jett that assists Jill in rearing a strong young man.
“They teach him how to fight. They remind him of what manners are supposed to be. They remind him to take out the trash and celebrate him for doing these things,” Jill said of her “village” of helpers.
Perhaps, some of those who help Jill rear her son will make appearances on her podcast, Jill Scott Presents: J.ill the Podcast. “I’ve been having these conversations with my girlfriends for years,” Scott said of her new podcast.
“I always thought, man, what if everybody else could hear these conversations too, you know, in the process of trying to learn and grow, which never ends … We’re always trying to get to the other side of the road. I thought maybe this is a good time to share because we’ve had so much contained existence recently, so much contained existence, that maybe we could spark conversation.”
