Boy mom’s know that there is truly a special bond between mother and son, but when a baby girl is welcomed into the family, it is “totally different,” according to “Milkshake” singer, Kelis.
“It’s funny , I have been a boy mom for so long and I was completely content with super hero’s , weapons and war games . I would have been thrilled to have another baby boy . But now that she’s here , I looked down at her little hand on mine and I realized I had been preparing for her my whole life . Having a girl is somehow totally different. And don’t get me wrong , we will still have super hero’s , weapons and war games with baby G too . But we will do it wearing diamonds , rubies and pearls !!!!!! Happy freedom Friday guys !!!! ” The musician turned cook posted on Instagram.
Kelis, who has two sons, Knight 11 and Sheperd five, announced back in August that she was expecting.
“Chef Kelis – table for 5 please,” she posted in her announcement. “We’re adding one more! 🤰🏾🖤 Happy to announce that I’m expecting and I’m partnering with @firstresponsepregnancy, as they are committed to supporting healthy, equitable pregnancy journeys and understand the importance of a nurturing environment for black women and mothers.”
As an advocate for a healthy existence, both physically and mentally, for the Black community, Kelis made sure that she took care of herself and her baby girl from the beginning.
“So for me, self-care has become paramount, particularly in the beginning stages. Knowing your body and what it needs, being able to be still and quiet enough to hear what it tells you…Don’t be afraid to look for a team that looks like you and can relate with a level of care that will make you feel your most comfortable. It’s your right. It’s our right. And we must demand not only what’s best for us, but for our community.”
