Thanksgiving is going to look a lot different this year due to COVID-19. But, it doesn’t have to be less fun for the kids. Here are five free and fun activities to keep them busy and occupied while you finish up things to get one of our favorite holiday meals ready and on the table!
Just like a regular game of tag, but a little different, Turkey Tag will keep the kids busy for the right amount of time you need. Let the kids paint and decorate clothespins to look like turkeys, attach them to the backs of their shirts, and let the fun begin!
Pictionary is a fun game any time of the year. This is definitely one that the adults may want to join in too. You can use words that fit the holiday such as turkey, dressing, rolls, autumn, pumpkin spice, and more. You can make it as elaborate as you want. Just make sure to have fun with the decorations.
Kids love taking pictures, so why not make a Thanksgiving Day game out of it. Let them be in charge of the camera, five them clues about the relatives that are coming over for dinner, and see if they take the right picture to match the person. This is a great way to not only get the kids interacting with everyone, it is the perfect way to document Thanksgiving 2020. At the end of the day, the kids can even put together a slideshow to show off their skills!
4. It’s a Family Dinner Reunion
This one takes a little bit of prep time, but can be fun and interesting all in one. Have everyone write a paragraph about themselves the day or so before your family dinner. Have one person read everyone’s paragraphs and try to guess who they are reading about.
Thanksgiving jokes and printable cards are the perfect mix to keep kids busy. Print out these sheets and let the kids have at it. When you are ready for them to come to dinner, they just not be ready for you. But, beware, dinner time provides a captive audience, giving the kids the perfect opportunity to practice their standup joke routines!
However you celebrate this year, make sure to stay safe and follow CDC guidelines to have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
