Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s daughter, Kaavia ‘Shady Baby’ Wade, is celebrating her 2nd birthday today (November 7th). Yesterday ahead of her birthday, Kaavia enjoyed some yummy cupcakes that were so good that they were “hittin like a mail-in ballot.”
Earlier today, Kaavia shared a photo on her Instagram page with the caption, “I’m 2 today. No biggie. Where’s the ribtips?” The picture, which has received 24,000 likes and counting, shows the toddler about to jump in the arms of her mom.
Gabrielle and Dwyane Wade welcomed their first child together via surrogate in 2018.
“A LOVELY DAY. We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl!” the couple announced on Instagram.
Union shared her struggles with infertility in her 2017 memoir We’re Going to Need More Wine, revealing she “had eight or nine miscarriages.”
“For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle or coming out of an IVF cycle,” she wrote.
Union was later diagnosed with a condition called adenomyosis.
“Towards the end of my fertility journey I finally got some answers, because everyone said ‘You’re a career woman, you’ve prioritized your career, you waited too long and now you’re just too old to have a kid — and that’s on you for wanting a career. The reality is I actually have adenomyosis,” Union said, via Essence. “The gag is I had it in my early 20s, and instead of someone diagnosing me they were like ‘Oh you have periods that last 9 or 10 days and you’re bleeding through overnight pads? Not a mere inconvenience perhaps there’s something more there.'”
In addition to Kaavia, the actress is stepmom to Wade’s daughter Zaya and his two sons Xavier Zechariah, 7 this month, and Zaire, 18.
