Country star Mickey Guyton is soon going to have a baby boy. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Mickey Guyton revealed that she and her husband Grant Savoy would be welcoming a son in February 2021, calling their baby “an absolute miracle.”
In August 2020, Mickey Guyton announced that she and her husband were expecting their first child together, writing on Instagram at the time: “Even in times of darkness, like the ones we as a society find ourselves in today, God always finds a way to shine His light on the beautiful side of life, like the miracle of life itself. I’m so excited to announce that I’m having a baby!” wrote Mickey. “My life completely changed in an instant. Literally nothing else matters. I’m so excited and terrified all at the same time. I have no idea what I am doing but am so thankful that God chose me to be this baby’s mom 😭👶🏽🤰🏾.”
Mickey Guyton, a Texas native who is one of the few Black country artists in Nashville, Tennessee, is unfortunately no stranger to racism, as is her husband. Her pregnancy weighs heavily on her, knowing that her son will also have to face racism in the future too, but she promises to be there for her son always.
“I’ve seen racial injustice happen to my husband. I’ve had a ‘Karen’ falsely make claims against him and say some of the most heinous things, like the N-word. I’m growing this Black child in my belly that is going to have to face this,” says Guyton. “I pray for him. I just want this baby to just have its own life and have its own choices, and I will accept this baby for who or whatever it chooses to be. I just want to support it in every way that I can.”
