Celebrity parenting comes with both perks and responsibilities. Mariah Carey knows all too well about the challenges associated with the spotlight. The ‘We Belong Together’ singer talks about her and Nick Cannon’s failed marriage in her book, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.
“Along with double the joy came double the responsibility,” Mariah shares in her memoir. “It was a lot of work and a lot of having to be home and available,” the legendary singer admits. “Making the necessary adjustments to being working parents in entertainment took its toll on our relationship, and the end of our marriage came fast, as it began.”
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon wed on April 30, 2008. The couple welcomed their kids, Monroe and Moroccan, on April 30, 2011, which was exactly three years after the couple tied the matrimonial knot. Nick Cannon filed for divorce in 2014. The marriage dissolution was finalized in 2016.
Having kids was not the only thing that put a strain on Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s marriage. The ego also played a significant part in the separation.
“Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed, which can translate into many billable lawyer hours, and ultimately, it did,” Carey explains in her book. “It was tough,” the celebrity continues. “We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family.”
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon co-parent their kids well by ensuring that birthday celebrations and holiday seasons are divided equally. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
