The Oprah Winfrey Network has announced that they will air a special dedicated to highlighting Black fatherhood. The one-hour program, entitled, OWN Spotlight: They Call Me Dad, will air September 15th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
OWN Spotlight: They Call Me Dad will highlight five famous fathers as the program celebrates the special bond of Black fathers and their children.
Throughout the course of the series, viewers will get exclusive access to these five celebrity fathers doing things outside of the spotlight like braiding hair, coaching teams, to having the “talk” about how to deal with law enforcement.
The special will feature pastor and author, Bishop T.D. Jakes, two-time Super Bowl Champion Malcom Jenkins, DJ and social media influencer, D-Nice, Grammy Award-winning recording artist Anthony Hamilton, and Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin.
The special will connect on a deeper level with these five fathers and allow the audience to get to know about their fears, joys, and sense of fulfillment that being a father brings, representing a more positive image of being Black fathers.
