NBA star Steph Curry, his wife Ayesha and their 7-year-old daughter Riley recently attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Palo Alto, California. The protest comes two weeks after the murder of Minnesota resident George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25.
Since George Floyd’s murder, protests against police brutality and systemic racism have spread across the world, and on Saturday, June 6, Steph, Ayesha and Riley Curry joined hundreds of peaceful protesters for Palo Alto’s Black Lives Matter March; marching “over 6.5 miles” to protest against racial injustice.
Ayesha and Steph Curry made sure to share photos and videos of the march on Instagram. In one post, Ayesha shared a few black-and-white photos of herself and Riley at the march and in the caption, she wrote: “The kids are watching, listening and learning. What will you have them retain? Let’s get it right for them so they don’t have to for their children. Thank you for these photos @iamsquint 🖤#wearethecure.”
In another post, Ayesha Curry shared more photos and a short video from their march. In the caption, Ayesha gave an emotional statement; encouraging people to continue protesting peacefully and to vote. “I want to encourage everyone to show up however you can and keep showing up. Keep lining the streets, keep filling the feeds, keep informing your friends,” wrote Ayesha. “We have the power to shift and change things. I promise you in this moment, right now… this is the victory and the celebration you want to be telling your children and your children’s children about. Lastly, please, please, please vote! We can protest, shout from the rooftops but the missing puzzle piece is the vote. Let’s do it!”
Steph Curry shared a short clip from the protest and captioned it: “Today was a movement in Oakland! Thank you @juanonjuan10 for the leadership. Everybody play your role and be consistent with it. This is a real moment of change. Keep each other accountable. “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains!” #justiceforgeorgefloyd #breonnataylor #blm.”
