Not every woman is set on becoming a mother and having children, but that is not the case for pop singer Rihanna. In an interview with Afua Hirsch for the May issue of British Vogue, Rihanna spoke about her desire to eventually have children and raise them with or without a spouse.
When Rihanna, who is currently 32, was asked about where she sees herself in ten years, she replied: “I’ll have kids – three or four of ’em.” When Hirsch followed up with the question of if Rihanna would raise the kids as a single mother if she had not found the right partner, her response was a concise, “hell yeah.” She elaborated further, saying: “I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”
In the interview, Rihanna also discussed her upcoming music project R9, which would be her ninth studio album. Though she acknowledged she was working hard on her next album, she did not reveal when it would be released. “I can’t say when I’m going to drop. But I am very aggressively working on music.” When asked what fans should expect of her next album, Rihanna said: “I don’t want my albums to feel like themes. There are no rules. There’s no format. There’s just good music, and if I feel it, I’m putting it out.”
Following her January split with Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel after three years of dating, Rihanna’s main focus is on managing her billion-dollar Fenty Maison and Fenty Beauty fashion and cosmetic brands, and of course, her music. “I feel like I have no boundaries,” says Rihanna. “I’ve done everything – I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre – now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.”
