Boris Kodjoe and his daughter, Sophie, were two of many in attendance at the 13th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon on Thursday (February 6). The event was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Boris and Sophie looked fabulous on the red carpet.
“When Sophie rocks her mom’s @gymwrap on the red carpet,” Boris exclaimed. “I had the distinct pleasure of taking my daughter to the most inspiring pre-Oscar event of the week,” the celebrity father shared with his fans. “The @Essence Black Women In Hollywood Brunch honors our powerful and talented Black women by celebrating their groundbreaking accomplishments,” Boris further explained.
“Sophie, who has been taught about representation, integrity, and courage by her own powerful and talented Black mother, was inspired by the love and creativity in the room. I watched her being embraced by Black women she looks up to while carrying herself with her mother’s grace, beauty and kindness. So proud.”

Loretta Devine, Niecy Nash, and Moana Luu were three of many legendary stars in attendance at the event. Niecy Nash was one of the honorees at the luncheon. The actress gave timeless advice to her fellow honoree Lashana Lynch from which all women can benefit.
“When it comes to who we are as women, we will live a very blessed life if we learn how to choose ourselves every single day,” Nash shared at the luncheon.
“Sometimes we aren’t born with the gift of someone telling us that as a child,” the actress admitted. “But when you get it as a woman, your whole world changes. You can be standing flat-footed in the middle of a blessing and still not know it. But that is how you keep your joy – choose yourself every day.”
