Some joked about Kobe Bryant fathering four daughters without ever having a son. The celebrity father, however, enjoyed being a dad of four girls. Elle Duncan of ESPN gives insight into how Kobe felt about not having a boy child.
“I met Kobe one time,” Duncan shares. “[I was] backstage at an event for ESPN in New York. I saw him, and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh. That’s Kobe. I’ve got to get a picture.'”
The picture had to wait for a few minutes as Kobe Bryant saw Elle Duncan’s protruding stomach and began to ask questions. “How are you,” Kobe asked Elle. “How close are you,” the star athlete inquired. “What are you having?”
Duncan told Bryant that she was expecting a baby girl to arrive in the coming weeks. Such a revelation excited Kobe to no end. “He high-fived me,” Duncan reveals. “Girls are the best,” Kobe said. Bryant and his wife, Vanessa Bryant, were the parents of three daughters – Bianka, Natalia, and Gianna – at the time.
“I asked if he wanted more children,” Duncan says of the interaction. “He said that his wife, Vanessa, really wanted to try again for a boy but was sort of jokingly concerned that it would be another girl.”
Vanessa and Kobe Bryant welcomed their fourth daughter, Capri Bryant, on June 20, 2019. The little one came three years after Bianka Bryant’s birth in 2016. Some wondered if Kobe Bryant and his wife would try for another child in hopes of having a son. Kobe, however, left such a decision of family expansion up to his wife.
Elle Duncan reflects on how Kobe felt about the notion of having four daughters during her interaction with him two years ago. “Without hesitation, he said, ‘I would have five more girls if I could. I’m a girl dad,'” Duncan says.
Kobe Bryant also commented on his daughter, Gianna, during his meet-and-greet with Elle Duncan. “That middle one,” Duncan shares. “He said, ‘That middle one is a monster. She’s a beast. She’s better than I was at her age. She’s got it.'”
Kobe and Gianna Bryant passed away in a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of a total of nine people this past Sunday (January 26). Gianna was 13-years-old at the time of her death. Kobe Bryant was 41-years-old at the time of his passing. Stay tuned for more Kobe Bryant tribute news.
