Marsai Martin of the hit television series Black-ish has a strong support system in her parents, Carol and Joshua Martin. The young star recently stopped by The Tamron Hall Show with her mom and dad, who revealed how their daughter got her start in show business.
“It was hard to not know,” Carol said when asked how she knew that her daughter would be a hit in the entertainment industry. “She’s been this way since birth,” Mrs. Martin said. “Even before she could speak real words, she was singing and mimicking different movies. We would have had to have been blind to not realize [it].”
The one encounter that got Marsai going in the industry was with a photographer who was hired to take family photos. “The photographer was giving her direction. [He was saying], ‘Tilt your head to the left and to the right.’ And she about four and she [did really well with following instructions],” Carol shared.

Marsai’s ability to follow instructions at such a young age was quite impressive. “[The photographer] was like, ‘Most kids don’t know their left from their right. Let me give you this card.’ He gave us every bit of information that we needed to get her going,” Carol said.
Now, with a movie under her belt and a recurring role on a hit TV series, Marsai is turning into an unstoppable force in Tinseltown. “We just make sure that we’re always around her,” the teen’s father, Joshua Martin, said when asked about his daughter’s support system.
“We give her the confidence that she needs to move forward on a daily basis,” Mr. Martin added. “We make sure our presence is felt around Hollywood as well so people know that she has a mom and a dad, and we’re going to be here for her.”
