Young Thug, real name Jeffrey Lamar Williams, faced backlash after a video of his seven-year-old daughter driving went viral. The video shows Williams’ daughter driving behind the wheel of a car with her mother sitting in the passenger seat. The celebrity father responded to the scrutiny on Tuesday (June 4).
In the video, Young Thug’s daughter sat on the edge of the seat while turning the steering wheel. The little girl’s mom referenced her daughter’s eagerness to drive as she recorded what she thought was a cute moment for her child driving.
Few deemed the moment as cute, though, seeing as how it only takes a split second for tragedy to strike on the road. Many viewed the viral video as child endangerment and attacked Young Thug for allegedly allowing such activity to occur.
“I’m almost sure DFCS is gonna see this,” Tyrese wrote online after seeing the clip. Former NBA player Matt Barnes labeled the act as “stupid.”
The criticism was so great that Young Thug responded to the backlash. “Never would I put my child’s life in danger nor anyone else’s life,” the celebrity father said. “I am out of town and that video is clearly in Atlanta,” he continued. “I am a very safe man, especially when it comes down to my kids.”
The rapper further explained, “I am very smart. [The] last thing I’m looking for is clout/fame. I have both. Plus, she wouldn’t dare even ask me could she drive a car. … But it’ll be handled ‘expeditiously,'” Young Thug declared.
Young Thug is the father of six kids.
