Will Smith had the support of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, son Trey Smith, and daughter Willow Smith at the the premiere of Disney’s “Aladdin” on May 21, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.”
Will, who plays the genie in the live-action film, recently revealed that he was initially hesitant to play the role.
“I was saying Disney Magic is real. This is my first Disney movie. And there’s something that Walt Disney did in the design of these stories that at the core of these stories is something that shocks the inner child within you and forces it to come alive and smile and appreciate the moment,” he said.
Adding, “So for me, coming into this, first starting with fear, it definitely started with fear, what Robin Williams did with his character was, he just didn’t leave a lot of room to add to the genie. So I started off fearful. But then when I got with the music, it just started waking up that fun childlike silly part of me. And like Guy [Ritchie the film’s director] was saying. This was the most joyful experience of my career.”
In addition to Smith, the film also stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
“Aladdin” flies into theaters nationwide May 24, 2019!
