Ne-Yo was joined by his wife, Crystal Smith, and kids at the NAACP Image Awards 2019 this past Saturday (March 30). The celebrity father took amazing pictures on the red carpet before heading into the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to receive the Black & Positively Golden Music Award.
Ne-Yo joined a host of other big winners at this year’s NAACP Awards. Beyonce nabbed the prize for Entertainer of The Year, while Jay-Z received the President Award, which is counted as one of the most prestigious honors given by the NAACP. Maxine Waters was given the NAACP Chairman Award and Tom Joyner was bestowed the Vanguard Award.
Ne-Yo’s honor at the NAACP Image Awards 2019 comes on the heels of him offering to bring two students from the 2019 Disney Dreamers Academy 2019 class to Los Angeles for a time of learning and innovation. Ne-Yo announced the internship during the class commencement proceedings last month via a video clip of him working in Dubai.
One can only imagine the wisdom that Ne-Yo will impart to the Dreamers chosen to join him in his Los Angeles studio. Ne-Yo recently gave his philosophy on music during an interview with Billboard.
“I feel like I owe that to not worrying about trends or what’s cool or whatever’s popping at the moment and keeping with the essentials and the basics of music,” Ne-Yo said. “Music is supposed to make you feel something or evoke some type of emotion, be it joy or sorrow or even anger, and melody and the right lyrics have the power to do that — those are the things I focus on. I guess I’m doing something right because I’m still here.”
Ne-Yo is the proud father of four children. You can see the full list of this year’s NAACP Image Awards nominees and winners here!
