Mashonda Tifrere is thankful for the relationship she shares with Alicia Keys. The celebrity mom tells Us Weekly how she and Alicia work together to rear Mashonda’s son, Kasseem Dean Jr.
“Alicia is extremely involved with my son,” Tifrere tells the media source. “She is not like the bonus mom or stepmom that’s just about literally, ‘alright, we’re picking them up at 2. No. She really shows up for parent-teacher meetings. We plan trips to the park with all the boys.”
Mashonda Tifrere certainly knows a thing or two about co-parenting in harmony. Such is the reason why she wrote a book, Blend, that highlights the importance of adults fostering healthy relationships for the sake of the kids.
Mashonda’s wake-up call came in the form of little Kasseem having trouble in school. “He was, you know, acting out in his own little way,” the celebrity mom explains. “He had some issues in school. He wanted to know why I couldn’t go see him at his dad’s house, and why can’t his dad come over and see his bedroom at our house.”
Tifrere was not on the best speaking terms with Kasseem’s father, Swizz Beatz, at the time. She decided to flip the script, which led to Mashonda’s new book on co-parenting. Both Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys contributed to the publication.
