La La Anthony and son Kiyan Carmelo Anthony attended Day 9 of the US Open held at the USTA Tennis Center on September 4, 2018 in New York City.
La La Anthony is a firm believer in knowing where the kids are and what they are up to. The celebrity mom tells Redbook how she parents her son, Kiyan Anthony, so that the two are both mother and son and best pals.
“I think you have to be in the know of what your kids like and stay cool or stay relevant to what they’re doing,” La La shares. “I mean, it’s a part of just staying connected with your kids. It’s important. I tell him he’s my best friend and I mean that when I say it.”
Perhaps one of the reasons why La La and Kiyan have such a great relationship with one another is because of the celebrity mom’s refusal to practice helicopter parenting. “I just let [Kiyan] live life and in living life, I found things that he loves doing,” La La explains. “As long as he’s in, then we’re all in, and once he decides, ‘eh I want to try something else,’ then we’re gonna rock with him on that too.”
Anthony is also a firm supporter of social change. The celebrity mom recently worked with her team to debut jeans specially made for curvy women. “I just want women of all sizes to feel sexy and confident and great — and clothes can do that for you,” La La tells Redbook. “Jeans can do that for you. So I was adamant about making a pair of jeans that look good on all women of all sizes and I think we’re accomplishing that.”
