Storm Reid is joining the #unstereotype movement. The young star announced her partnership with Unilever earlier this week while hanging out at Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France.
“Here in Cannes talking with @Unilever about why stereotypes have got to go – in films, TV, music, fashion, everything,” Storm tweeted on Tuesday. “What you are doesn’t matter,” she continued. “Who you are does. #Unstereotype.”
It was just a few weeks ago that Storm Reid spoke with AFP about her life as an actress since working with Oprah Winfrey in A Wrinkle In Time. “She said, ‘Don’t waste energy on things you can’t change in life when you could be using that energy on something else positive,'” Storm said of the advice Oprah gave her. Now, “It’s my life motto.”
Reid is set to appear alongside Zendaya in the HBO series Euphoria soon. “It’s basically about teenage drama, love, lies, and drugs,” the young star said of the show. “Even though it’s a heavy topic, I feel like it underlines what’s going on in the world right now.” We agree!
Aline Santos, Vice President of Global Marketing for Unilever, recently delved into the ways in which the company is working to end discrimination. “We’ve listened to consumers and looked at the way we portray gender in our advertising and realized we need to do things differently,” she explained. “We understand that by using our influence responsibly, we can contribute to positive cultural change as well as making better connections with people through our advertising.”
