Omar Epps gets real about fatherhood in his memoir, From Fatherless to Fatherhood. In the book, Omar chronicles his life from a child coming from a single-parent home in Brooklyn to being a celebrated actor in Hollywood.
“My parents dated for a couple of years and were married when I was born,” Omar says in the first chapter of his book. “But they were divorced when I was two years old,” he continued. “To have my mom tell it, the next six years of life involving my father were filled with many sporadic disappointments, hopes were raised and shattered, and expectations that were lifted only to be let down. The only constant I can recall from those times is my father’s deafening absence.”
Omar may have come from a fatherless home, but such circumstance has not caused him to be an absent parent as well. “Cannot express how happy I am for this blessing of a man and the release of his new book From Fatherless To Fatherhood,” Omar’s wife, Keisha Epps, shared online this past weekend. “The truth and inspiration in this book are for everyone..not only for fathers/men. I believe every piece of great literature should move, teach and inspire. Job well done, my LOVE,” she exclaimed.
Dozens of Keisha’s fans responded to news of Omar Epps releasing his first book with congratulatory remarks. “Now that’s impressive,” one follower said in response to Keisha’s Instagram post. “This is needed for a time like this,” another fan commented. “I hope this book speaks to the men that are struggling to walk in their God-given inheritance because they don’t know how to be who they are.” Who knows how much positivity a good book can spread?
