College acceptance season is in full swing, and these kids are making us proud. Mekhi Johnson is the latest rising scholar to be accepted into eight Ivy League universities.
“As soon as I saw I got into Harvard, my mom started screaming,” the 17-year-old tells media. “She started yelling, ‘My son just got into Harvard,’ and everyone in the restaurant started clapping.”
Mekhi is a senior at the Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland. He is among few of his peers to be accepted into all eight Ivy League colleges. “I didn’t have words then, and I don’t have words now,” the teen reveals. “I just felt extraordinary.”
Mekhi began taking academics seriously at the tender age of six-years-old. The youngster was inspired by a radio broadcast that featured a youth who had been accepted into all eight Ivy Leagues back then. “I want to do that,” the youngster said to his mother. Fast forward about eleven years, and Mekhi has done just that.
“Even at six, he was pretty serious and goal-oriented,” the teen’s mom says. “He kept this idea in front of him through all those years. It’s a wonderful thing and is certainly a testament to what you can do when you set your mind to it.”
Mekhi has yet to post about his accomplishments on Facebook. In fact, the public got wind of the teen’s acceptances via his friends who proudly gave Mekhi the accolades he deserved. Johnson plans to study political science as an undergraduate and later attend law school. Keep your eyes and ears on this young man!
