The Chi, Showtime’s hard-hitting series that chronicles the reality for many living in south-side Chicago, has been renewed for a second season.
Starring Alex Hibbert, Jacob Latimore and more, the renewal announcement comes after only four- episodes have aired of its 10-episode first season. The new Showtime hit, has also signed on Ayanna Floyd Davis for the second season as executive producer and showrunner. Davis has written for shows like Empire, Hannibal, and Private Practice.
“From viewers and critics alike, the response to The Chi has been so enthusiastic from the very start that our decision to renew the series was an easy one,” said Gary Levine, Showtime’s president of programming to Variety Magazine. “We love the vibrant characters and the nuanced world that Lena [Waithe] has created. Her vision for The Chi has clearly struck a chord, and we know she has many more moving, personal and resonant stories to tell about her beloved hometown.”
