Many fans were excited to see Gatorade’s latest promo video in which a baby presumed to be Serena Williams’ daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., was featured. Dozens celebrated the clip as the 2-month-old’s debut in show business. The truth, however, is that the baby in the promo video wasn’t actually little Alexis.
“While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set,” a representative from Gatorade revealed on Tuesday. “But the sentiment remains the same,” the speaker added.
Gatorade’s latest ad is certainly a tear-jerker as Serena is recorded while reading a precious note to her daughter. “Baby girl,” the tennis star begins. “I won’t mind if you play tennis badly. I won’t mind if you choose to never pick up a racket. But I beg, you, in this game of life, please keep playing, no matter what. Just like it taught me, sports will teach you to be strong. You’ll discover the power and grace of your body. You’ll learn to move, and you’ll learn the way to move others.”
Serena goes on to tell little Alexis about the many ways that sports crosses all barriers and unites humanity. The tennis sensation ends her segment by telling her daughter to “keep playing.”
Little Alexis Olympia was the star of her parents’ New Orleans wedding this past weekend. Serena and Alexis Ohanian Sr. tied the knot in the vibrant town and took several pictures with their daughter who was too cute for words.
