When your mother is legendary fashionista Kimora Lee Simmons, it is more likely than not that you are gong to follow in her footsteps in some shape, form, or fashion. For seventeen-year-old Ming Lee, she not only does a pretty good job at it but she makes it look easy all while maintaining high marks in her AP classes.
“I grew up on the runway, walking with my mom and sister at the end of every Baby Phat show during fashion week in New York,” the young rising start told W Magazine in a recent interview. “I’ve been in ads with my mom and sister since I was 2 years old. I’m only now realizing how uncommon that is and I’m deeply appreciative of those experiences.”
As a senior in high school, Lee is not only making her mark on the fashion industry as a business person, she is also following in her parents footsteps in the business arena as well. The AP student, although still undecided about where she will attend college, Lee has decide that she wants to major in pre-law, yet becoming a designer and owning her own company in the future, just like her mom, is among her deck of cards as well.
“I definitely want to try designing, because I think that I might be good at it. I take after my parents, so the ideal modeling job is for a brand or business that you own,” Ming said in her interview. “If I was going to make my own label I would always start with my mom first. I think she’s really developed and changed her style, and every time she changes she inspires the world in a different way.”
And of course, that inspiration extends itself to her mother’s closet. “I definitely steal all of her vintage pieces from 10 years ago…and the new ones too,” said Ming.
Whatever the future holds for this rising young visionary, we know that it will be steeped in family tradition that will take her straight to the top!
