Lance Gross and his daughter, Berkeley, were two of many to attend Lupus LA in Marina Del Rey on Saturday. The celebrity father held his daughter’s hand as they took the red carpet by storm in casual wear.
Lance rocked shorts with a plaid shirt, hat, and sunglasses. Berkeley, on the other hand, was all about the denim as both her pants and shirt were of the same style.
Lupus LA had one mission this past weekend, which was to spread awareness and garner support for the illness. Toni Braxton, who lives with lupus, took center stage as one of the organization’s ambassadors. Michael B. Jordan presented Saturday’s MBJAM 17 event in Marina Del Rey. Both children and adults were invited to participate activities and games offered. Blake Griffin and Terrence J made guest appearances at this year’s MBJAM event.
Lupus affects more than 1.5 million adults and children every year. The exact cause of the disease is unknown but many experts believe that genetics and hormones play a significant role in development. Among those diagnosed with lupus, 90 percent are female between the ages of 15 and 44. The small number of men affected by the illness struggle with the notion of battling a disease that mainly affects women. It is for such reason, and several others, that Lupus LA exists.
The non-profit seeks to spread the facts about lupus and effectively dispel stereotypes. According to the organization’s site,
“We provide a number of patient services to the lupus community in the greater Los Angeles area such as support groups for adults and pediatrics, doctor referrals, patient education and our newly diagnosed patient guide.
We promote awareness about lupus and advocate on a local and national level for better healthcare and government involvement for our lupus population.”
