The rumors appear to be true! Several media outlets say that Madonna is set to adopt twins out of Malawi.
“Today the High Court made a ruling that she should go ahead and adopt the two children,” Mlenga Mvula, a spokesman for Malawi’s judiciary, revealed on Tuesday. “Within a year she should provide us with a home survey report which the court has ordered her to provide.”
Madonna denied adoption claims after media sources reported her plans to add more children to her family last month. “Rumors of an adoption process are untrue,” Madonna said. “I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home.”
The twins will make Madonna the proud mother of six kids and mark the third time that the singer adopted children out of Malawi. Both David and Mercy are from Malawi and often visit their homeland with mom.
Madonna addressed the adoption process in Africa during an interview in 2006. The ‘Material Girl’ singer was under scrutiny because some believed that she used her influence as an entertainer to speed up the process.
“I assure you it doesn’t matter who you are or how much money you have, nothing goes fast in Africa,” Madonna said. “There are no adoption laws in Malawi. And I was warned by my social worker that because there were no known laws in Malawi, they were more or less going to have to make them up as we went along. And she did say to me, ‘Pick Ethiopia. Go to Kenya. Don’t go to Malawi because you’re just going to get a hard time.”
Nevertheless, despite the challenges, Madonna brought David home and added Mercy to her family years later. Stay tuned for more details surrounding the singer’s latest adoption efforts.
