Yara Shahidi has become known for her role as Zoey on the hit ABC show, Black-ish; however, it is her passionate activism that has thrust her into the world-wide spotlight as a prolific voice of this generation.
Recently, in light of the new administration’s executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, Shahidi took to social media, reminding her fans why the new edict hits so close to home for not only millions of people around the world but for she and her family.
“I am the result of love. More specifically, Black and Iranian love,” the young star writes on Instagram. “Of Shia love, of Christian love, of American love, of a love that highlights how interconnected we truly are. If my Baba was stuck in an airport because of a Muslim ban 39 years ago, he would have never fallen in love with my mama.”
