Ava Marie turns 3-years-old this year and the toddler has plans regarding her party’s theme and attire.
“This year she’s being very vocal about what she wants,” Vanessa Simmons tells the ladies of The Real. “She’s kind of the boss and in charge of that this year,” the celebrity mom adds.
Ava Marie’s idea of a cool party surrounds the beloved Nella the Princess Knight character. “She wants everybody to come in princess or knight costumes. She thought of it,” her mom shares.
This year marks the first time that Vanessa Simmons’ daughter is in charge of her birthday bash festivities. “The first birthday, I have to be honest, I went crazy,” Vanessa admits. “I rented out the Griffith Park Carousel, I bought the most extravagant cake. We did all of these plans and my man was like, ‘Well who’s coming?’ I was like, ‘Your family. Maybe my sister will fly in.’ It was just all for [Ava]. I definitely went a little bit over the top.”
The star mom definitely gets a pass for going too far in the birthday party department as she is a first-time mom. She shares a few tips for rearing that she finds beneficial during these first five years of Ava’s development.
“The best tip I can give is read to your kids early, speak to them,” Vanessa advises moms-to-be. “We never talked to her in baby talk. I feel like since we started reading to her at an early age, she now picks up books, she brings them to me, she wants me to read them. And she could tell me what the story is, front to back, she’s really comprehending.”
Ava is Vanessa Simmons’ daughter with her boyfriend, Mike Wayans. The little one celebrates her third birthday on February 13, 2017.
