Mahershala Ali’s little one is expected to make entry in coming weeks and the Moonlight star is planning to keep things simple in the name category.
“We’re looking to do something simpler,” Mahershala tells Jimmy Kimmel. “My wife’s name is Amatus [Sami-Karim] … But we’re going to do something a little bit simpler for our child,” he adds.
Mahershala knows all too well about unique names as his parents named him Mahershalalhashbaz at birth. “It’s the longest word in the bible,” Mahershala shares. “Mahershalalhashbaz was the prophet Isaiah’s – it’s in the book of Isaiah – the prophet Isaiah’s second son. It’s a symbolic name so he didn’t actually have to live through life with that name … but I have to live through life with that name.”
Mahershala Ali and his wife announced their expectancy last month. The couple’s little one is due to arrive next month around the time of the 2017 Academy Awards.
Mahershala and his fellow cast members were in the spotlight at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards as Moonlight snagged recognition as the Best Drama Motion Picture.
